NATIONAL THINK-TANK INAUGURATES COMMITTEE TO REVIEW THE CONSTITUTION
The National Think Tank today inaugurated the National Constitution Review Committee for the amendment of the 1999 constitution at a well attended and colourful event at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja. The ceremony was Chaired by Their Excellencies, the Governors of Rivers State and Niger States – Chief Rotimi Amaechi and Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, who both delivered very well argued cases for supporting the amendment process embarked upon by the National Think Tank.
The guest lecturer was Mr. Olisa Agbakoba, President of the Nigerian Bar Association, who delivered a powerful case for the amendment of the Nigerian Constitution, clause by clause, starting from the first amendment, the Sovereignty Clause.
Other speakers included the Chairman of the Central Working Committee of the National Think Tank – Prof. A. Bolaji Akinyemi, former Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – Admiral Mike Akhigbe and the representative of the President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – Senator Umaru Dahiru.
The well attended event was graced by such luminaries as Brig. Gen. Felix Mahmud, director-General, Army Mortgage Bank, King F.N Okurapo, Odhe of Okugbe Isoko Kingdom, Dr. Maxwell Gidado and members of the Constitution Review Committee.
